Dear friends of the ADKDW,
Not Afraid of Art - under this title, Academy members and international artists are collaborating with the Cologne art scene as part of a three-year project. The aim is to create a space for joint learning and to cultivate an understanding of the social and political potential of art.
The exhibition of the same name in the ADKDW Studio deals with the themes of power and fear and shows art projects by Kanitha Tith, Anastasia Sosunova, Buket Isgören, Isaac Zavale, and Žiga Sever. Barış Doğrusöz's installation Interstices, a dizzying array of combinations will also continue to be on display.
Two interventions will be presented outside the ADKDW Studio: The commissioned work How the Leopard got his claws by Yussif Musah at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum and Asithukanga by Isaac Zavale in the vitrines of the UNG-5, at the Ebertplatz subway station.
We also invited artists to explore the exhibition theme in commissioned works. The resulting drawings by Katayoun Vaziri and Rita Ponce de Leon circulate on posters in Cologne's urban space and in the ADKDW's digital publications. The artists Yennu Ariendra and Antonia Beeskow, among others, have also composed sound pieces that can be heard in the ADKDW media library.
The exhibition Not Afraid of Art will be accompanied by talks and supporting events to which we will invite you together with the participating artists. In addition, also our Learning to Listen series is entering the next round and we welcome rym Jalil and Sancia Miala Shiba Nash and the artist Drew K. Broderick as artists-in-residence in Cologne.
We hope you enjoy our program and look forward to many enriching encounters with you!
Kind regards
Ala Younis
