On Violence #2
Stefano Harney & Fred Moten
with STEFANO HARNEY, FRED MOTEN
The format of the series On Violence is in three parts: Following this online lecture, Stefano Harney and Fred Moten will discuss their positions with Denise Ferreira da Silva in a live event in front of an audience on 15 06 2022. The event will take place on site at HAU1, Berlin and will be streamed live here . On Violence #2 with Stefano Harney and Fred Moten will be concluded with the publication of the lecture in book form.
Is the explicit representation of violence in anti-colonial theory and in the critique of racism revictimizing? What form of visibility is hidden in colonial and industrial logistics and in neocolonial and neoliberal structures? In their works, authors Stefano Harney and Fred Moten address questions about forms of violence both implicitly and explicitly. Together, they most recently published The Undercommons: Fugitive Planning & Black Study (Minor Compositions, 2013) and All Incomplete (Minor Compositions, 2021).
While historical, hegemonic and repressive forms of violence are increasingly becoming the focus of ongoing debates, acts of resistance are more and more frequently being characterised as violent and thereby delegitimised. At what point is it acceptable to use counter-violence against sexist, racist, extractivist or economic forms of violence? In the joint discourse series On Violence the Akademie der Künste der Welt (Academy of the Arts of the World, ADKDW) and HAU Hebbel am Ufer are starting an analysis of current forms of expression of violence.
