Beyond the myth of universal access, technological revolution is clearly intertwined with new forms of colonialism. In his experimental documentaries, Louis Henderson traces this connection, but also shows how it can be hacked and reversed. Such is the proposition of Lettre du Voyant (2013), a documentary fiction film about the Ghanaian practice of Sakawa, a mix of Internet scams and magic. All That Is Solid (2014) looks at the electronic waste grounds and illegal gold mines of Ghana to show how high the material cost of immaterial digital technology really is. Henderson’s most recent effort, Black Code/Code Noir (2015) reflects critically on the recent murders of African Americans by law enforcement in the USA, arguing that the sedimented history of slavery is coded into the algorithms of police Big Data.

Louis Henderson is a filmmaker whose works were shown at places such as the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, the New York Film Festival, the Kyiv Biennial 2015, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen as well as the Tate Modern and Tate Britain in London.
