The curators Jude Anogwih (Video Art Network, Lagos) and Tasja Langenbach (Videonale Bonn), Ima-Abasi Okon (artist, London) and Theo Eshetu (artist and head of the video art workshop in Lagos, Berlin/Rom) will be present. The evening will be moderated by Marie-Hélène Gutberlet (KfW Stiftung).
With videos by Aderemi Adegbite, Jude Anogwih, Victor Ehikhamenor, Christoph Faulhaber, Melanie Manchot, Emeka Ogboh, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Ima-Abasi Okon and Uche Okpa-Iroha.
Tasja Langenbach and Jennifer Gassmann (Videonale Bonn) together with Jude Anogwih (Video Art Network, Lagos) curated the exhibition and the video art workshop VIDEONALE IN LAGOS: Changing City―Shifting Spaces. The Nigerian capital Lagos is one of the most populated urban areas and most rapidly developing metropoles in the world. Moving images become a language in the globalized digital present and reflect the constant changes of urban life: How is the city changing? Where are public spaces emerging, where are they disappearing, and why? Where do private interests take control over urban areas? Such were the questions at the center of the project. The evening gives insights into the VIDEONALE IN LAGOS project as a temporary platform for the debate of contested public space. It will conclude with the presentation of the publication Videonale in Lagos―Changing City, Shifting Spaces (StrzeleckiBooks, 2016).
VIDEONALE IN LAGOS is a cooperation between KfW Stiftung, Videonale Bonn e.V., Goethe-Institut Nigeria, Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), Lagos and Video Art Network (VAN), Lagos. The evening is a collaboration of KfW Stiftung, Academy of the Arts of the World, and StrzeleckiBooks.
