Afrikan Sciences
with ERIC DOUGLAS PORTER, VIOLA KLEIN
Can you imagine the love child of hip-hop godfather Afrika Bambaataa and sci-fi author Octavia E. Butler? If you believe the fans of New York DJ and producer Afrikan Sciences (Eric Douglas Porter), he is the embodiment of this union. His debut Means and Ways (2011) or the more recent Circuitous (PAN, 2014) were received with unanimous acclaim, making him into one of the most respected young producers in New York’s electro scene. The spiritual grandson of jazz legend Sun Ra, Afrikan Sciences fuses the sci-fi atmosphere of afro-futurism with intense polyrhythmic structures. His dense sound is owed to a riot of influences and oddities—mutations, multiple meanings, and moments of pure collision. Followed by Viola Klein.
