With ŽIGA SEVER

Not Afraid of Art - under this title, the academy members and international artists are collaborating with the Cologne art scene as part of a three-year project. The goal is to create a space for shared learning and to cultivate an understanding of the social and political potential of art.

The exhibition under the same name in the ADKDW Studio deals with the themes of power and fear and presents artistic positions by Barış Doğrusöz, Kanitha Tith, Anastasia Sosunova, Buket Isgören, and Žiga Sever.

Žiga Sever specializes in illustration, with a focus on comics and tattoos. Žiga Sever draws his daily impressions at least twice a day. Common themes include still lifes of his home, architecture, nature, friends and self-portraits. He transforms everyday moments into drawings as he writes down his feelings, activities, encounters, meals and the music he listens to. His visual diaries also serve as a meditative exercise that allows him to reflect on himself, his artistic journey and his experiences. Žiga Sever opens his personal notebooks for us to show how he has overcome his fears of interacting with artists and their networks by recording the smallest details of these encounters.
In the Artist Talk, he will be drawing the audience in his diary, while simultaneously answering questions, explaining his thought process and methods he uses to draw.

The exhibition Not Afraid of Art will be accompanied by supporting events and Artist Talks. The Artist Talks are a series of events in which the artists of the biannually changing exhibition of the Academy of the Arts of the World talk about their work. In the rooms of the ADKDW, we invite you to enter into a relationship with the artists and their work in the context of lectures or moderated discussions.
