Summer academy

With INKE ARNS, BINNA CHOI, MERV ESPINA, PETRIT HALILAJ, MAX JORGE HINDERER CRUZ, OLIVIER MARBOUEUF, ADRIANA SCHNEIDER ALCURE, NANETTE SNOEP, ALA YOUNIS, GARY ZHEXI ZHANG

The Academy of the Arts of the World aims to redefine the role of art and cultural institutions in a rapidly changing world and seeks to engage with different global and international contexts through art and to share this engagement with local communities. This vision requires self-reflection and imagination to meet new challenges and opportunities. To realize these goals, the Academy is interested in holding meetings between its international members and the local scene in Cologne.

In the first edition of the Summer Academy 2024, Academy members will discuss with representatives of Cologne's art and culture scene: "What is at stake?" - how can relationships with the world, the world of art and the world of cultural institutions be rethought in the light of today's challenging events and political developments? Following the opening of the exhibition, we invite all interested parties to engage in dialog and exchange with the academy members. We hope that in subsequent years, the Summer Academy will develop into a platform that can generate ideas for collaboration between the members of the ADKDW, art institutions and artists from Cologne and NRW.

This meeting is part of the NOT AFRAID OF ART project, in which the ADKDW will present a collaborative project from spring 2024 to the end of 2026 with the aim of creating space for (joint) learning and cultivating an understanding of the social and political potential of art. The ADKDW will appear again and again at different locations in the city. In addition to exhibitions, film screenings, workshops and publications, the annual summer academy will deepen the leitmotif Not Afraid of Art.
