Body and Movement
Dancing in the streets
Conceptualized by ALEX MELLO
With PANAMÉRICA TRANSATLÂNTICA
In Collaboration with IJULA, TEATRO LUSOTAQUE, CORAL VOZES DO BRASIL, MARACATU COLÔNIA
The workshop series Body and Movement under the direction of Alex Mello deals with the relationships between play, improvisation and dance, based on the concepts developed by Rudolf Laban for the study of movement in dialogue with Brazilian street carnival music. This methodology aims to explore the body and its possibilities, to encourage the body in its plurality, to produce art without given standards and to understand different bodies in art and dance as a field of knowledge.
The workshop series is full, participation is no longer possible.
Performance Sambópera Woy:
Sat 25 11 | 8-10pm Uhr
Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, Cäcilienstraße 29-33, 50676 Cologne
A total of four workshop series will be held as part of the ADKDW's Carnival Project. All four workshop series will deal on the topics of belonging, identity, body as territory, street carnival as a performative act and occupation of the city, as well as art and biography as a manifesto. By focusing on these realities, topics such as racism, affection, loneliness, discrimination, survival strategies and empowerment are dealt with and expressed in the form of a choreographic scenic play. In all series of workshops, one of the sessions will be dedicated to making costumes and stage props. As a result of the workshops, a performance is being prepared in the form of an approximately 20-minute act, which will form one of the 4 acts of the Sambópera Woy to be performed at the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum.
The workshop series encourage discussion of the productive and expressive poetics of the body in space and as space, be it in the museum itself or in the city it inhabits. We will use wearable textiles as an inventive experimental field of freedom(s), make them, use them and move in and with them.
In cooperation with the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum and the Centre for International Cultural Education of the Goethe-Institut Bonn.
