Korean Cinema in Global Contexts
with Soyoung Kim Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz
ADKDW member Soyoung Kim (aka Jeong Kim) is a professor of film studies at the Korea National University of Arts and one of Korea's most well-known independent filmmakers. She publishes regularly on modernity, gender, cinema and media.
In conversation with Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz (ADKDW), Soyoung Kim will present her new book "Korean Cinema in Global Contexts - Post-Colonial Phantom, Blockbuster and Trans-Cinema" on October 26 at KHM Cologne.
The volume offers the most comprehensive analysis of Korean cinema to date, from its beginnings to the present, and includes the films of Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho, and Kim Ki-young. In addition to comparative film studies, Kim Soyoung's analysis draws on feminist theory and postcolonial criticism, interweaving the history of Korean cinema with aesthetics, politics, and cultural history.
"Korean Cinema in Global Contexts - Post-Colonial Phantom, Blockbuster and Trans-Cinema" is 212 pages long and available from Amsterdam University Press.
