Learning To Listen
The Politics of Frequencies
with OLIVIER MARBOEUF, MAX JORGE HINDERER CRUZ
Moderation: Keno Mescher, Editing: Markus Heuger
As part of the Learning To Listen series, Paris-based curator, producer and author Olivier Marboeuf makes the social situation in Haiti audible. Initiator Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz talks about the genesis of the project.
The Learning to Listen series has set out to rethink the concept of listening. Club culture in Berlin can play just as much a role as the musical philosophy of West Africa or the sonic side of the resistance in Haiti. Olivier Marboeuf's sound installation as part of the series combines field recordings from France and Haiti with ostensibly hostile soundscapes and the question of the effect of language without the possibility of an intuitive understanding of content. Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz – artistic director of the Academy of World Arts and initiator of the project – talks with Keno Mescher about the concept of the Learning to Listen series, the 'Politics of Frequencies' and the possibility or impossibility of communication through sound.
Learning to Listen – The Politics of Frequencies will be broadcast on 23 02 on WDR3 and is available as audio-on-demand.
