The notion of “solidarity” is often associated with workers' movements of the past. Today, in a networked world that is nevertheless too complex to easily grasp, it is time to rethink the meaning of the word. How has our understanding of solidarity changed through our virtual relationships? Have the basic conditions for solidarity been shifted? Is responsible conduct possible on a global scale?
Together with the identical twins Chiku and Chito Lwambo from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Megan and Jessica Kennedy from Ireland, choreographer Gudrun Lange explores concepts of community and individuality, looking at social cohesion between men and women and within family structures. Taking the four dancers' inherent expertise with close personal ties as a point of departure, we embark on a choreographic research trip into personal and universal forms of solidarity, searching for a collective whole that refuses to exclude the individual.
