URXX – Ultra-red 1994–2014: Second encounter
with ULTRA-RED
Founded in 1994, the international sound art collective Ultra-red includes artists, researchers, and organizers from different social movements active in struggles of migration, anti-racism, participatory community development, and the politics of HIV/AIDS. Collectively, they have produced radio broadcasts, performances, recordings, installations, texts, and public space actions. URXX marks the collective’s twentieth anniversary by bringing members from all over the world together for a special listening session. Rather than involving music, the session is concentrated on series of short audio recordings designed to generate collective analysis. In this instance, the audio recordings codify themes and problematics found in the areas of sound-based research that the members of Ultra-red have been conducting for several years and, in some cases, for several decades: investigations that have taken place in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, New York, and Torbay. The listening session will be accompanied by a DVD archive produced especially for the occasion. The group will present their ongoing practice and the results of the listening session in a public talk.
Venue: King Georg, Sudermanstraße 2, 50670 Cologne
