Canceled: Ghosts
Due to new governmental decisions to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, the Academyspace of the Academy of Arts of the World will not be open from 02 11 2020 until 10 01 2021. The exhibition Ghosts, Traces, Echoes: Works in Shifts cannot be visited during this period.
with EVA BUSCH, RITA SIEBERG-KARWATZKI
Ghosts, Traces, Echoes: Works in Shifts brings together artistic explorations of histories of work in Cologne and the Ruhr region in the late 20th century. Through remembrance work, the project brings often-overlooked histories to life: it transplants the ghosts, traces and echoes of past decades into the realities of the present day, in order to create visions of the future.
The growing exhibition, curated by Madhusree Dutta and Eva Busch, works in three shifts: stories about ghosts in November 2020, maps of traces in December 2020, and songs as echoes in January 2021. A permanent exhibition featuring works by Abeer Gupta, as well as the photography project Momentography of a failure, serve as bridges between the past and the present, including working environments during the corona lockdown of spring 2020. In a specially designed cinema room, the theme of work is explored in a film programme drawing on over a hundred years of international film history.
Each of the three shifts features a guided tour with curator Eva Busch. These tours give visitors the opportunity to find out more about the content of the exhibition and ask further questions, as well as incorporating other geographical contexts. The focus is on the different research practices of the artists involved. At the event for Ghosts, Rita Sieberg-Karwatzki, a contemporary witness will offer her own personal perspective.
Due to the current situation we would like to ask you to register for the event at produktion@adkdw.org.
