radio in between spaces
edition #7
With SUSANNA SCHOENBERG, ILARIA GADENZ
Susanna Schoenberg, an Italian multimedia and performance artist based in Cologne has produced in recent years various projects which investigate the phenomenology of boundaries and apparatus-based observations, especially the monitoring of sea borders in the Mediterranean Sea. She presents her work deep interview (on monitoring), a performance in the form of a double monologue of questions that relates to border surveillance, monitoring practices and asylum policies.
Ilaria Gadenz from Radio Papesse will speak about Süden Radio, an ongoing project that in the face of the shifting and drifting reconfiguration of the many Souths, adopts sound as a critical tool of knowledge. Süden Radio is a call to share thoughts around the politics of listening – choreographic, ritual, active, relational, affective and generative; around its value in the socio-cultural-political realm in the Southern Mediterranean region. From Süden Radio's archive, we will listen to Panphonia – by Pietro Bonanno and Fabio Lattuca, aka Vacuamoenia – a soundwork that vessels the listeners to the other side of migration and displacement; a sound investigation of the Sicilian rural villages built during the fascist regime and now almost completely abandoned.
Sonic Perspectives from the Global South. Sounding Hospitalities. Time, Sound and Emancipatory Practices. Radio as Activism.
In sonic lectures, live performances, conversations, compositions, documentaries, and radio plays, radio in between spaces is exploring the interplay of sound, public and private space, activist and artistic practice. International sound artists and experimental musicians, philosophers and theorists, critics and journalists examine questions of foreignness and proximity, solidarity and dissonance, vibration and materiality, meaning and noise, permeability and resistance.
