Web-Docs, this flexible format between internet and cinema, is widely hyped in the trade as an alternative, a way out of the production crisis, while its business model has always been unclear. Where are the opportunities, the challenges to film aesthetics, the audiences, and future economic prospects for this format? Above all: beyond counting clicks, how can we measure the success of web projects that are having a go in this genre? What could the criteria be for sponsors, makers, and the audiences as we look forward?

Using the example of Kinshasa Collection – the semi-fictional series by Dorothee Wenner, which inspired the two-day event Kizobazoba at studiobühne köln – web experts will have a discussion with makers: What are the documentary forms of the future, and what role do web documentaries play? What can success even mean in documentary filmmaking? Can the political or social “impact” be proven – if so, then how? What role do transnational working conditions play, and what effect does the artistic collaboration with creative people from other disciplines have on the classic self-understanding of directing?

We don’t promise any answers at this event, but we are looking forward to coming together with the audience to find out what directions the search might take for "the next new project."
